So you want to vegan? There a few things you'll need to know before you jump in. Well actually, you can jump in whenever you want and learn as you go (that is how I did it) but, I'm going to give you a few pointers.
1. Have LOTS of fruit and veggies!
2. Stock up on rice, beans, and potatoes (Why? You can cook anything with them and they will give you a majority of your protein)
3. Might be a good idea to invest in chia seeds (Protein)
4. Research. Look into the issues surrounding farm animals (dairy, wool, beef) you will be amazed and knowing this information will help you on your journey to becoming a vegan.
5. Take your vitamins! Being vegan is great however, we do go through a deficiency in certain things such as protein, iron, calcium, and B12 these are all very important for being healthy so a multivitamin is the way to go or you can take B12 a couple times a week. Either way make sure you are taking a vitamin.
6. Look into recipe books! Being vegan is a whole new world and it will feel like learning about food all over again. Just because it's vegan, does not mean it's healthy. A lot of vegan deserts may be lower in calories and sugar than regular desserts but,, they are still high in fat and some sugars depending on what it is. Avocado for example is full of fat!
7. Be prepared to run to the lou. Yep you read that right! As your body goes through a detox you will be making several trips to the bathroom. Don't worry, it is normal!
8. Don't do it to lose weight. IF you are just trying to lose weight and looking for an easy way to do it, don't even do it. You should live a vegan lifestyle for the animals and for the environment. All of the added health benefits and weight loss that comes with it is just a plus. Besides if you eat wrong and be a "junk food vegan" you'll end up gaining weight. Remember what I said about just because it's vegan does not mean it is healthy? well.. research your food, research veganism.
